History
In 1995, NCAA Division II women’s volleyball coach Vinh
Nguyen established the Top Gun Volleyball Club.

Since then, Top Gun has trained over 1500 student-
athletes, many of whom continued their volleyball careers
at major universities.  Most Top Gun coaches also recruit
student-athletes for their colleges and universities and they
understand, better than anyone else, how to prepare a
student-athlete for the recruiting/scholarship offer process.

Top Gun Volleyball promotes the development of positive,
lifelong character traits including sportsmanship,
leadership, and self-confidence.  We are committed to our
players.  Top Gun takes great pride in their success and
we look forward to bright futures for those athletes wearing
Top Gun wings.
Message to Top Gun Parents
We regularly survey parents of club volleyball
players asking them, "What 3 things about club
volleyball are most important to you?"

The overwhelming responses are, in order:
More playing
time for their
child

Competent and
responsive
coaches

A realistic and
reasonable
tuition fee
Club parents are involved.
Respect... it's a two-way street
Most of Top Gun's coaches are career volleyball coaches who know how to
coach, teach, and listen.  Respect is the secret to our success.  We show
our players respect and they, in turn, show our coaches respect.
We are Committed to Giving You
What You Want Most!
We strive to be responsive to player and parent
needs.

To effectively manage player playing-time, we
divide our teams into two categories: competitive
and instructional.  An instructional team places
emphasis of balancing playing-time amongst the
players while a competitive team places emphasis
on team success (winning!)  In so doing, players
compete against other players with equal skills and
gain the experience they need to advance their
game to the next level.

Our coaches are the best at what they do.  Most of
our coaches are career volleyball coaches at
nearby high schools, colleges and universities.
Top Gun coaches are approachable and they work
with the parents and players to ensure that the
player's club experience is worthwhile and
enjoyable.

In addition to our regular coaching staff, Top Gun
has floater coaches that are available to provide
one-on-one and small-group skills training, at no
extra cost.  We also have a parent liaison who
oversees all club activities and expedites conflict
resolution.

Our tuition fee is very reasonable especially when
compared to other volleyball clubs in area.  We
take a practical approach to attending extra
tournaments and always give the player's family
the final word when it comes to travel expenses.

Overall, Top Gun is about players, mothers,
fathers, grandparents, sisters, brothers... family.
We encourage you to think of Top Gun as an
extension of your family.  We promise you a safe,
wholesome environment that is conducive to
personal growth and team success.
Parents get a lot of floor time too.
It's not uncommon to have parents come to practices, share thoughts with
coaches, and spend countless hours on the floor at tournaments.  Top
Gun coaches listen and care about what you think and you're invited to
always communicate with them.
Tuition and Traveling Expenses
Tuition
Travel Expenses
Tuition pays for operating costs, including
expenses like salaries, uniforms, facilities,
insurance, registrations, and equipment.  Tuition
is kept separate from travel expenses as tuition is
non-refundable unless authorized, and then, only
in extreme cases.

The 2008 tuition for tournament team play is
$2300.00.  The club offers a 10% ($230) discount
if the tuition fee
($2070.00) is paid in-full before
December 5th, 2007.
All players on competitive teams, also referred to
as traveling teams, are required to participate in
one post-season tournament.

The club impounds
$1150.00 to cover travel
expenses, including transportation to/from the
event, transportation while at the event,
supervision/chapporones, lodging, and some
meals and incidental expenses.

Travel optional teams may also opt to attend post
season tournaments.  Travel expenses for those
teams will be collected subsequent to team
approval.

Top Gun players become accustom to playing in a collegiate environment
at the Cal Poly University Women's Gym

The Darlene May Women's Gymnasium is the home of the NCAA
Div. II, Cal Poly Broncos volleyball team and home to Top Gun.

Players and coaches use state-of-the-art, collegiate-level, training
aids to practice individual and teams skills.
The recently remodeled Cal Poly Pomona
women's gym was designed to be a
collegiate volleyball & basketball venue.  In
addition to excellent lighting and climate
control, the gym has a hi-tech, shock
absorption, Swedish-maple, hardwood floor
with a thick, rubberized padding system to
reduce muscle strain without giving up the
advantages of real wood.
